WWII: Washington at War Walking Tour
In 1941, millions of Americans began to descend on Washington to aid the new war effort. The city would never be the same. This is the story of the remarkable - often haphazard - transformation of Washington from a sleepy southern town into a (wartime) global capital. Step back in time and learn about government girls (10 for each guy), segregation, Hollywood stars, alphabet cities, bunkers, and secret spies!
Where: Meet at the John J. Pershing Statue in Pershing Park (Pennsylvania Ave + E St. NW Across from the Willard Hotel). Blocks away from both Metro Center and Federal Triangle Metro stops. The tour ends at the WWII Memorial. View Map.
When: Available to private groups by request.
Duration: 2 hours
